Doughnut chains like Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts will always be staples of American doughnut culture, but small shops that create bespoke treats are beginning to take some of that attention away from the big names. Orlando is home to some of the finest doughnut shops anywhere, and we think these eight are worth a visit the next time your sweet tooth is bothering you.

DG Doughnuts

Short for ‘Damned Good,’ DG Doughnuts is a family-owned food truck that recently opened up a brick-and-mortar shop inside a Chevron gas station on West Colonial Drive. Batches of their classic favorites like lemon-blueberry and coconut cream are always in the fryer. They’re one of the few doughnut shops in the area that offer both a drive-through window and a delivery option. If you’re out in their neck of the woods, we definitely recommend stopping by.

Valkyrie Doughnuts

Valkyrie Doughnuts has quickly become a favorite of locals, UCF students, and visitors alike, and is a great option for those with food allergies. The doughnuts are huge, delicious, and best of all, always vegan. There are twelve different options, cooked up fresh daily.

Orlandough

Liz Doerr is a longtime food reviewer who decided to try her luck at making her own tasty treats. Her Orlandough blog then turned into a craft doughnut business with the same name. Find her at the College Park Farmers Market every Saturday, or you can order via email!

Little Blue Donut Co.

A tasty player in the growing Central Florida food truck game, Little Blue Donut Co. can be found roaming around the Windermere/Winter Garden/Lake Nona area, but can also be found at the Daily City Food Truck Bazaars or Tasty Tuesday events on occasion. Their Samoa (yes, like the Girl Scout cookie) is to die for.

Duck Donuts

Originally from North Carolina, the Duck Donuts recipe has finally found its way to Central Florida. Always fresh, warm, and made to order, Duck Donuts are sure to make your mouth water. As if that weren’t enough, you can get your hands on a doughnut sundae for a totally new doughnut delivery system.

Donuts to Go

Donuts to Go is the place to be if you’re a fruit lover or enjoy a fruity taste to your doughnuts. Their Key lime, apple pie, and strawberry cheesecake doughnuts are well known, but they also offer a square-cut glazed yeast donut for the purists out there. Find them on West First Street in Sanford.

Donut King

There are a couple of Donut King locations in Central Florida: one in Clermont and one on Howell Branch Road in Winter Park. They serve up classics like the Boston cream doughnut, coconut flake, and powdered-sugar jelly doughnut every day, in addition to more adventurous options like maple-bacon, Oreo, and Heath Bar.

Bakery Plus

One of south downtown’s longest-running doughnut shops, Bakery Plus is situated on East Michigan Street and serves up doughnuts that many Orlando locals say put other shops to shame. I guess that’s to be expected when they’ve been in the game as long as they have been. A fan favorite is the Fruity Pebbles-topped glazed yeast doughnut, so be sure to try one if you stop in.
