While Orlando recovers from its collective holiday hangover and eases back to the normal grind, the weather this time of year is perfect making January one of the best months to visit Orlando–and the easiest to plan for with the right packing hacks.

Typically, temperatures climb to around 71°F and drop to 52°F. Regardless, temperatures vary. January weather might be cold for some Florida residents, but the weather is comparably warmer to the rest of the country, especially the northern states. Northerners looking to escape frigid conditions at home, come to the Sunshine State to enjoy the many outdoor activities Orlando has like visiting theme parks, local entertainment, and dining out, and alfresco.

Whether you’re from afar or nearby, we’ve hacked what essentials to pack when visiting Orlando in January.

Packing Hacks Tip 1: Pack for Sweater Weather and Summer Styles

One of the funniest things about Florida weather is it’s unpredictable. Freezing temps in the morning are sometimes replaced by scorching heat in the afternoon.

When planning your vacation outfits, pack for all seasons. Northerners might find the weather warm, so pack shorts and short sleeve tops but throw in sweaters and a light jacket to be safe. Another item to pack is swimming attire because swimming is still an option in January whether at a water park, lake, spring, or pool. Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando has seasonally heated pools.

Now let’s break down what to wear for the different activities you might be doing in the City Beautiful.

Packing Hacks Tip 2: Theme Park Outfits

Walt Disney World Resort, LEGOLAND, SeaWorld Orlando, and Universal Orlando Resort are all located minutes from Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando, and most likely visiting one of these parks is on your vacation agenda.

Here’s what to wear:

  • Comfortable shorts and a short sleeve top (if it’s warm) or long pants
  • Light sweater or jacket (if it’s chilly, dress in layers)
  • Leggings or joggers
  • Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers
  • Extra socks (in case you get doused by a super-soaker ride)

Don’t forget:

  • A backpack to hold your valuables
  • Your printed theme park tickets
  • Cash, credit card, and ID
  • Swimsuit/towel (if going to a waterpark)
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • Hand sanitizer

Packing Hacks Tip 3: Outdoor Outfits

Many think Orlando is just a theme park destination, but lots of tourists know and have come to love Orlando’s outdoor excursions.

You can zipline, kayak, take airboat rides, visit parks, and go on hikes. Gatorland is a crazy and cool alligator farm. Want a chance to see alligators in the wild? Hit up Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures. Adrenaline and fitness junkies as well as the kids will love the crazy obstacle courses at Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park. Of course, there’s always a fun and relaxing day to be had at the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Here’s what to wear and pack for Florida’s great outdoors:

  • Shorts for warmer weather, a t-shirt, and long sleeve shirt (could be the same outfits you wore to the parks)
  • Rugged shoes (or shoes you don’t mind getting dirty)
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Swimsuit/towel
  • Hat
  • Light sweater and/or jacket

Bonus Tip: Date Night Dress

Orlando is full of award-winning restaurants, attractions, and events – some of the best being in Disney Springs, downtown Orlando, and International Drive including ICON Park.

While some places require fancy attire, many others are as laid back as most of Florida. When you make reservations, ask about the restaurant’s dress policy.

We think you can’t go wrong with the following:

  • Black dress or a maxi dress
  • Dress slacks and shirt (jacket and tie most likely optional), dark khakis
  • High heels or flats, dress shoes
